More than 100 years ago, Edwin Ruud, a Norwegian mechanical engineer, came to America and developed the first successful automatic water heater. That early success marked the beginning of a tradition of innovation and value that led to the introduction of RUUD heating and air conditioning equipment in the 1950s.

Since then, the RUUD has grown into one of North America's largest manufacturers of quality heating, cooling and water heating products for residential and light commercial use.

Today, RUUD operates manufacturing facilities employing highly trained workers and state-of-the-art equipment. Over the years, the product lines have expanded, changed, and improved significantly as new design techniques and better manfacturing technologies have become available.

While other companies test products at random, we use 100% computer-automated testing on every Gibson product to eliminate human error in the final analysis of product quality. At Westinghouse, we take great pride in our heating and air products, and build each one to provide years of worry-free comfort. We do this through a manufacturing process called Demand Flow Technology (DFT). We are the first and only heating and cooling manufacturer certified in DFT.

With DFT, we test each and every air conditioner and furnace we make. In fact, each product goes through our “check, check and recheck” process at every station during the process. Before our heating and air systems leave the factory, gas furnaces are checked about 234 times and air conditioners are checked about 144 times. The final analysis is at our quality control station where we perform 100% computer automated testing to eliminate human error.
